Filipino Homes Powered with Solar Energy through Helios and Security Bank Partnership

  • June 4, 2024

Helios, the country’s pioneering climate fintech firm who innovated the solar mortgage program, aims to transform energy into clean and sustainable for Filipinos. Joining forces with Security Bank Corporation (PSE:SECB), both parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on February 29, 2024. This marked a turning point towards a sustainable future for the Philippines through widespread usage of green energy.

Known for its inventive approaches, Filipinos have Helios to thank for reducing their electricity bills. In its partnership with Security Bank, they will integrate solar panels into housing loans to reduce the financial pressures on homeowners from high electricity bills.

“By leveraging each other’s strengths, we aim to position our solar mortgage offering not merely as an option, but as a necessity,” said Paz Gonzalez, SVP and Secured Lending Division Head, Security Bank. “This partnership encompasses a referral arrangement, wherein Helios will direct prospective clients to Security Bank for home loans inclusive of solar panels; utilization of the home equity option for solar panel acquisition; and solar mortgage to eligible clients through our Top-Up Program.”

This revolutionary new financial product fulfils the dual purpose of making solar energy more accessible at a cost-effective rate for consumers. Solar panel purchases will be integrated in new and previous housing loans available from the bank.

Solar mortgages, led by Security Bank, will completely change the way solar is sold and the way we generate value from our homes. We don’t have to wait for capital appreciation or rental income. [You can] add solar for zero down today and create a completely passive income stream for your family, all with zero downpayment today,” said Hsin Yao Cheng, Founder and CEO of Helios.

Helios commits to the quality and efficiency of its solar panel installation. Helios employs only reputable providers nationwide, with a 25-year warranty. The company also provides preventative maintenance and accessible support to prioritize long-term savings.

The partnership also states Security Bank’s commitment to sustainability and the importance of long-term secure investments not only in finances, but also the environment.
