AboitizPower Gives Solar Power Boost To Engkanto Brewery

One of the best ways to promote renewable energy is by providing proof of concept to the public. Consumer products can be a great tool to convince people of the effectiveness and viability of green energy by having a sustainably produced product literally in their hands.

Drinkers of Engkato, a popular brand of local craft beers, will soon get to enjoy green energy at work as AboitizPower Distributed Renewables Inc. (APx) partners with Engkanto Brewery to install solar panels in their breweries.

“We believe that embracing renewable energy is not only beneficial for the environment but also sets an example for other businesses in the craft beer and manufacturing industries,” Engkanto Brewery founder Ian Paradies said.

Carbon-Free Productivity

The project began construction early this year and has commenced the testing stage in the second quarter, with Engkanto Brewery’s facility operating on clean energy. APx will be installing 97.09 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar panels, which could generate 130,293 kilowatt-hours (kWh) for the initial year.

It typically takes 0.2 kilowatt hours of energy to produce a bottle of beer. With APx’s solar panels, Engkanto could potentially produce over 651,000 bottles in a year. This means that over a year’s worth of production can be achieved solely from clean energy, significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

A total of 2.6 million kWh of renewable energy is expected to be produced through the duration of their 20-year contract with APx. This partnership can serve as a good model for all local businesses, showing that it’s very feasible to run your operations on renewable energy without sacrificing productivity and efficiency.

Commercially-Viable Sustainability

“We are enhancing operational efficiency and championing sustainability in the craft beer industry,” AdventEnergy first vice president and head of retail James Byron Yu said, noting that the partnership comes just in time for October, largely known as “Beer month” all over the world.

Yu also highlighted AboitizPower’s mission to advance sustainable energy solutions to commercial and industrial businesses and give them much-needed assistance in integrating clean energy into their operations.

As more businesses embrace renewable energy, more consumers will see and enjoy its benefits, which would further promote a larger cause: a more sustainable future for the country.
