Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 27) — A film heritage building will “soon” be built in the historic walled city of Intramuros in Manila, the government said on Wednesday.

It will house a cinematheque and become the new headquarters of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The Department of Tourism (DOT) — along with its infrastructure arm, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority — signed on Tuesday a 22-year agreement with the FDCP for the project.

CNN Philippines has contacted the DOT to ask for the target completion date and funding details.

In a news release, it said the building will be constructed on an 800 square meter lot along Sta. Lucia Street.

In a separate statement, the FDCP said the building will house the Cinematheque Centre Manila and the Philippine Film Archive.

There will also be a museum or gallery in the structure, as well as a film and media library, and a cafe, the tourism department noted.

FDCP chairman Tirso Cruz III said the project signifies the government’s “commitment to preserving our cinematic legacy” and “amplifies the allure of Intramuros as a prime tourist destination in Manila.”

“It enhances the experience of what this iconic site can offer, making our history and culture even more accessible and engaging,” Cruz said.
