Powering the Shift SM Prime Rolls Out More EV Charging Stations

  • May 27, 2025

SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPH) is solidifying its position as a leader in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, with 131 charging stations now operating across its various properties as of the first quarter of 2025.

Currently boasting the largest privately operated EV charging network in the Philippines, the company plans to add at least 50 more stations by the end of the year.

Supporting sustainable mobility through accessible infrastructure

This expansion is part of SM Prime’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation. Charging stations are strategically located in malls and office buildings to support the shift toward low-emission vehicles. Plans are also underway to introduce charging points in residential and leisure developments, making cleaner mobility options more accessible to Filipinos.

“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy,” said Jeffrey Lim, president of SM Prime. “Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem.”

Aligned with national clean energy goals

SM Prime is a certified Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Provider-Operator, officially recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE). This ensures all its charging stations comply with national safety and reliability standards. The company’s efforts support the DOE’s broader goals, which aim to have EVs make up 25% of the country’s passenger vehicle market by 2030 and 50% by 2040.

Private sector leadership in climate action

With its extensive network of properties, SM Prime is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact in advancing a low-carbon future. By integrating EV charging stations across commercial hubs and master-planned communities, the company is demonstrating how private sector investment can actively support the development of a cleaner, more sustainable transport system.

“We are focused on making sustainability practical and accessible. Expanding our EV charging network is one way we are enabling Filipinos to adopt greener habits as part of daily life,” Lim added.
