Silay City Breaks Ground on Another Solar Power Facility

Silay City Breaks Ground on Another Solar Power Facility

  • July 9, 2024

Echoing the success of Silay’s 25-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Barangay Rizal, a new Php 3 billion project with a 69-MW capacity is poised to take shape in the same city. This second solar venture, this time rising in Barangay E. Lopez, is spearheaded by Citicore Renewable Energy Corp., the same company behind the original solar power plant.

The Citicore Solar Negros Occidental 2 project broke ground In February this year with CREC’s chairman, Edgar Saavedra, and chief operating officer, Oliver Tan, presiding over the ceremony, and with Silay’s Mayor Joedith Gallego and the provincial council’s energy committee chairman, Manuel Frederick Ko, in attendance.

Reliable Energy Resource at the Right Time

Upon completion, which is targeted for the end of this year or early 2025, Negros Occidental will be able to tap into a combined solar power generation capacity of 94 MW.

Capable of powering 70,000 households, this new solar farm will bring reliable electricity to Negros Occidental communities beset by local outages as well as regional power issues in the last few months.

The solar plant will feature a battery storage system, ensuring a steady supply of electricity around the clock.

Sunny Prospects for Locals

The project is expected to provide employment opportunities for 500 to 700 workers in the local area, further bolstering the region’s economic growth and green energy initiatives.
