Sfelapco Powers Greener Mobility with Free EV Charging in Pampanga

Sfelapco Powers Greener Mobility with Free EV Charging in Pampanga

  • November 12, 2025

The San Fernando Electric Light and Power Company (Sfelapco) has taken a progressive step toward greener transport by offering free electric vehicle (EV) charging at its main office in Barangay Lourdes, City of San Fernando. The initiative aims to make everyday transactions more convenient for customers while promoting cleaner, more sustainable mobility in Pampanga.

Two EV charging stations were recently installed at Sfelapco’s main office, allowing customers to power up their vehicles while paying bills, applying for new connections, or completing other transactions.

Each charging session is limited to 30 minutes, which is enough to top up an EV battery while customers finish their business inside the office. According to Sfelapco, a half-hour charge provides up to seven kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, roughly equivalent to ₱40 worth of power, all free of charge.

Convenience Meets Sustainability

The company said the service forms part of its broader effort to enhance customer experience and encourage sustainable practices within the community. “This is one way we can help our customers while also promoting green practices,” said Atty. Cathy Diaz, Sfelapco spokesperson.

The free charging stations are available during regular office hours, with Sfelapco staff ready to assist customers who need help operating the chargers. Clear safety reminders and instructional guides are also posted near the charging bays.

Sfelapco said the initiative reflects its growing commitment to sustainability and community empowerment, demonstrating how local utilities can support environmental goals through small, practical programs.

The company also revealed plans to install similar EV charging stations at its Floridablanca office, enabling more Kapampangans to join the province’s expanding electric vehicle community.

Nationwide EV Charging Expansion

Sfelapco’s initiative is aligned with the national government’s rapid expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with 912 publicly accessible charging stations now operational nationwide as of March 31, 2025, most of which are located in the National Capital Region.

To further accelerate EV adoption, the Department of Energy (DOE) is rolling out new regulatory initiatives and public consultations to ensure a safe, efficient, and sustainable charging network. These will address key initiatives such as installing EV chargers in gasoline stations, integrating the Charging Infrastructure Development Plan (CIDP) with the Distribution Development Plan (DDP) to optimize grid use, and expanding EVCS access in parking facilities to reduce range anxiety among motorists.

“Our goal of deploying over 7,000 EV charging stations by 2028 is ambitious but achievable. By combining infrastructure development with public engagement, we can accelerate the transition to EVs and build a cleaner, more sustainable transportation sector,” said Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick T. Aquino.

Driving Toward a Cleaner Future

For Pampanga residents, Sfelapco’s free EV charging stations offer both convenience and inspiration—a reminder that small, local actions can create ripples of change. The project strengthens the province’s role in the country’s renewable energy transition while supporting the government’s goal of achieving 50 percent EV penetration in all fleets by 2040.

By normalizing clean energy practices in everyday transactions, Sfelapco continues to show that the path to sustainability begins with communities willing to lead by example.
