Alternergy Receives Largest Wind Turbines in the Country

  • April 11, 2025

Alternergy Holdings Corporation (ALTER) is taking a major step in the country’s shift to clean energy with its 64-megawatt (MW) Alabat Wind Project in Quezon Province. The first two of its powerful eight-megawatt wind turbines have now arrived on Alabat Island.

These are the largest wind turbines in the country to date and were brought in by sea and unloaded at a jetty specially built by Alternergy’s subsidiary, Alabat Wind Power Corporation (AWPC).

Gerry Magbanua, President of Alternergy and Alabat Wind, highlighted the significance of this delivery.

“The first shipment of the country’s largest wind turbine marks a significant milestone for the Alabat Wind Project, enabling us to harness Quezon’s rich wind resources to support the region’s energy goals,” Magbanua said.

Built by Envision Energy, each turbine has three blades that are 90 meters long, creating a total wingspan of 182 meters wide. When fully assembled, the towers will reach up to 195 meters high—about the same height as the RCBC Plaza and Ayala Triangle Gardens North in Makati City.

The P7-billion Alabat Wind Project will have a total of eight turbines, making it the first wind farm in the Philippines along the Pacific coastline and the first in Quezon Province.

Construction on Alabat Island is moving forward, with plans to finish by the end of 2025. If completed on time, it could be the first wind project under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program, which began in July 2023.

The Alabat Wind Project is one of five renewable energy projects being built by Alternergy as part of its goal to reach a 500-MW capacity by 2026.
