Uratex Taps ACEN for Clean Energy in 4 Plants

  • April 15, 2025

ACEN Corporation, the Ayala Group’s listed energy platform, will be expanding its renewable energy portfolio through a partnership with Uratex, a leading foam manufacturer in the Philippines.

ACEN, through its electricity retail unit ACEN RES, will supply 100% clean energy to four Uratex sites—three located in Metro Manila and one in Isabela.

These four sites in Magallanes, Shaw Boulevard, Marcos Highway, and Isabela now join seven other Uratex facilities in Luzon and Cebu that already run on renewable energy through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). This government program lets electricity users switch to clean energy and choose their preferred provider.

Small steps, big vision

This move supports Uratex’s overall sustainability efforts, which also focus on product development with recycled materials and continuous improvements to operational efficiency.

“We recognize the importance of strong partnerships, and we’re incredibly grateful to have ACEN. We look up to the Ayala Group and appreciate how our smaller steps towards sustainability are supported by your larger vision. Thank you for your partnership and for inspiring us to push forward,” said Peachy Cheng-Medina, managing director of the Uratex Group of Companies.

Established in 1968, the Filipino-owned company began with high-quality mattresses, then expanded into producing specialized foam for electronics and automotive seats, as well as materials for textiles, food packaging, and OEM products for the automotive industry. Uratex has 25 factories and 18 showrooms nationwide.

A continued and expanding collaboration

Miguel de Jesus, ACEN’s managing director and chief operating officer (COO) for Philippine Operations, highlighted the importance of their partnership with Uratex.

“We are thrilled to celebrate Uratex’s expanded commitment to renewable energy. This partnership not only helps accelerate the sustainability journey of Uratex but also enables ACEN to build more renewable energy capacity and support the country’s goal of increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix,” de Jesus said.

“We look forward to a continued and expanding collaboration, exploring opportunities beyond just energy supply. We are committed to nurturing strong partnerships within the Ayala group, and we see immense potential to create synergies across our diverse businesses, including banking, communications, green mobility, and land development. By working together, we can unlock new avenues for innovation and sustainable growth,” he added.

ACEN is steadily growing its renewable energy portfolio with projects across the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, India, Laos, and Indonesia. Its total capacity, including active, ongoing, and planned projects, has reached around seven gigawatts.

The company has set aside around P70 billion in capital spending for 2025.
