NORECO II and PHILSOUTH Green Energy Sign MOU for Sta. Catalina Solar + BESS Project

Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORECO II) and Philsouth Green Energy Corporation (PGEN), a subsidiary of Philsouth Builders Inc., have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) marking a significant step toward the development of the proposed 20-hectare Sta. Catalina Solar + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project in Barangay Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

The proposed project consists of a 20.193 MWp Solar Photovoltaic facility integrated with a 35 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Designed as an embedded generation facility directly interconnected to NORECO II’s Bayawan Substation, the project aims to provide reliable renewable energy closer to consumers while reducing transmission losses and supporting grid stability.

The partnership is expected to provide several strategic benefits to NORECO II and its Member-Consumer-Owners, including more predictable energy costs, enhanced grid reliability, support for peak demand and voltage management, and reduced exposure to fluctuations in fuel prices and WESM prices.

Through the MOU, NORECO II and PGEN reaffirm their commitment to working together toward reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for Negros Oriental.

PGEN remains committed to delivering long-term value to NORECO II’s Member-Consumer-Owners, enhancing power supply reliability, and advancing renewable energy integration within the cooperative’s franchise area.
